K Rend and silicone render on the Wirral
Through coloured render systems, where the colour is in the material rather than painted on, so there is no paint film to blow off in salt air.

K Rend and silicone render
What a through coloured system is, and the honest version
K Rend is a brand name that has become the way people ask for the whole category, in the same way everybody says hoover. What it actually means is a through coloured silicone render system: a base coat with a reinforcing mesh in it, then a top coat whose colour runs through the material. Monocouche is a related idea with a different chemistry, applied in one thicker coat.
The attraction is real and it is specific. There is no paint film. A painted sand and cement wall fails when the paint goes, and on the Wirral coast salt gets under a paint film and lifts it in sheets. A through coloured surface has nothing to lift. It also sheds water while still letting the wall pass vapour, which is a better combination than a sealed coating on most modern walls.
The part left out of the pitch is that the system is only as good as what is under it. Applied over render that is already hollow, it is an expensive way to hide a problem for three years, and when it goes it takes the layer under it with it. So the first job is always finding out what is on the wall, and on a solid wall built to breathe this may be the wrong family of product altogether. Insulated render systems exist in this space too, and those are a system install with approvals attached rather than a rendering job, so we describe them rather than offer one. Often asked about alongside render repairs, pebbledash removal and lime plaster and lime render.
Get a price for the systemTapped first. Over hollow render a through coloured system is money spent covering something up.
The reinforcing layer is what stops the top coat cracking. Skipping or thinning it is the most common corner cut and it is invisible once done.
There is no repainting, which is the benefit, and no changing your mind cheaply either, which is the other side of it.
Done across Hoylake, Meols, and everywhere else on the peninsula.

Why people use us
Where it is worth the money
On an exposed coastal elevation, removing the paint film changes maintenance from repainting to inspecting.
- Whole elevation tapped and the findings shown to you
- Base coat and mesh specified, not assumed
- Colour chosen from a physical sample, not a screen
- What the system will not fix, said plainly
Frequently asked questions
K Rend and silicone render: the questions people ask
The ones that come up most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
Is K Rend worth it compared with painted render?
On an exposed wall, usually yes, because the thing that fails first on painted render is the paint. Inland and sheltered, the sums are much closer and sand and cement with a good coating is a reasonable answer.
Can K Rend go straight over my old render?
Only if the old render is sound and keyed. Over hollow render it will fail with whatever it is stuck to. The tap test comes before the quote, and if the answer is that the old render has to come off, you will be told that before you buy a system.
Does silicone render crack?
Any render can crack if the wall moves or the base coat and mesh are not right. What a correctly built system does is spread small movement across the mesh instead of concentrating it in one line. Cracks that appear in a straight line usually mean something structural rather than a render fault.
Can it be cleaned if it gets algae on it?
Yes, and north facing walls on the Wirral do get green. That is washing work rather than rendering work, and for that we would point you at wirralexteriorcleaning.com rather than quote for it ourselves.
Done across Hoylake, Meols, and everywhere else on the peninsula.
Find out what is on your wall first
Before anybody prices a system, the elevation gets tapped. That is the step that decides whether this is worth doing.
About Wirral Plastering
How the work is actually organised
Wirral Plastering takes the job as main contractor and puts the labour on it. That means one person quotes it, one person is answerable for it, and you are not chasing three numbers to find out who is coming on Tuesday.
It is worth saying plainly rather than implying a van and a family name, because the way a job is run changes what you can expect from it. What you get is a written scope, a date, and somebody whose problem it is if the date moves.
What we will tell you we are not
Damp proofing is a different trade and so is stone repair, and both come up constantly on Wirral housing. We do the plastering that follows damp work and the lime render that sits around stone, and we will tell you when the thing you are describing needs somebody else first.
Structural work is the same. A crack that runs in a line rather than a map pattern is not a plastering question and filling it is not an answer.
No photographs of our work, and why the site says so
There are no job photographs on this site. The slots are placeholders and they are labelled as placeholders. Nothing here is a stock picture presented as a job and nothing is borrowed from another company's gallery.
Real photographs go in as jobs are finished and customers are happy for us to use them, and not before. The same goes for anything that looks like a customer quote. There is a section built and ready for them, switched off, and it stays that way until there are real ones with permission attached.
